CAS is a web-based, server-centric framework that enables publishers to provide online self-service advertising services to the community. CAS isn't the services themselves but the e-commerce framework into which the services become components. It's like a plug strip powering a collection of appliances. It provides a number of common functions necessary for web-based applications. These include presentation, forms handling, validation, navigation, site management, security and back-end integration. We sometimes refer to these as "plumbing."
CAS makes it possible for publishers to control the web-based presentation of their services and to maintain aspects like single login access, security, navigation and integration, even as individual modules are developed and enhanced in the future.
CAS's e-commerce content management subsystem generates the appearance of various advertising services based on the newspaper's input. A newspaper's web-site designer owns his/her work.
Within the CAS framework, advertising modules (CCS for online classified order entry, CDS - for online ad inquiry and production management, etc.) can be presented with the same look and feel as the rest of the publication's web site. Each newspaper can customize the appearance, packaging, and display information for each individual CAS module. These services can support whatever media (print, web, etc.) the publisher wishes to offer.
